Seagoing Career
Opportunities for
AMC Cadets
Whilst our Primary Objective is
“Honouring the memory of Australian Merchant Navy Mariners who gave their lives in the service of their country in WWI and II and giving thanks for those that were able to return to their families.”
The MNWMF is also strongly committed to the support those who are endeavouring to make the merchant sea service their profession. Our efforts to seek out potential opportunities for placement of MNWMF Scholarship recipients in sea going billets, is an ongoing focus.
We are more than conscious that the Australian Merchant fleet has declined from approx. 100 to 13 ships in three decades.
Unions and industry have both argued the case for the creation of an Australian maritime fleet, that would offer strategic national interest benefits and revitalise the nation’s shipping industry.
Our commitment to Australia’s Merchant Navy, is simultaneously based on:
* Appropriate recognition of the vital role of the Merchant Navy during WWI & WWII
* Support of our current Merchant Navy Seafarers, who face a range of hardships
* Support of future generations of young Australians, who wish to pursue a career within the Maritime Sector
The MNWMF intends to continue our efforts in this important area and respond as best we can, under the prevailing circumstances, of the Australian Shipping Industry.
